When chunks get loaded sometimes a weird mass spawns. This happened in both creative and survival, and they usually spawn above water or ice, using nearby blocks. In the nighttime image, (taken from a multiplayer survival world) my friends say that they couldn't see the on the right. Also these were not here before the 1.13.1 update.
