Are you trying LAN (Local Area Network, basically, playing on same network) or Friends, where other people that you have friended on xbox game bar can play with you on worlds?
If LAN, then make sure in World Settings you turn on 'Visible to Lan Players"
Just be careful if on public wifi, turn player join settings to visitor, that will make new players that join unable to change things, and then if they are your friends, turn their personal settings to operator (able to change other people's permissions) or to the middle one, (able to do normal things but not affect other players ability to mine, place, open chests, etc.
This issue sometimes appear also on my device, the solution to fix this is login into xbox account on both device and then try to invite via ingame friend.
Yes yes. - Miguel
Ahh no, no LAN. We are all spread out around the country aha Some are playing on mobile like me, and others on pc or xbox etc. - Felix
Unfortunately invites never work. I take that back. I sent my friend an invite to a realm, and he said it popped up on his screen then dissapeared. So I shared the link and it took him back to minecraft but still didnt show my world. :l - Kanzai
Late update, I set my worlds to friends of friend or friends only/multiplayer.
But when I look at the settings once I'm in the world, the toggle for multiplayer is off
