This appears to be due to Grindstones needing to be attached to a block in Bedrock. The same can be reproduced by placing a grindstone on top of a block and then breaking the block. In Bedrock the top grindtone becomes an item again, in Java it remains in mid air.
In Java, Grindstones do not need to be attached to a block so remain when the block they are attached to is removed.
This likely falls under a parity request rather than a bug but I'm not 100% confident so will ask a mod to go over it.
