Gold Ore won't smelt in a Furnace with coal/charcoal

When a block or blocks of gold ore is placed into a furnace, it does not smelt despite the existence of fuel in its fuel slot.

Restarting the game, taking out/putting back in the gold, and mining/placing down the furnace don't work
