Warped fence gates not working correctly in inventory

When placing down warped fence gates I had in my inventory, the last one was placed down but with no sound and with that last gate apparently still in my inventory. I tried mining the one I placed to fix it, but that gate disappeared and the phantom gate was still in my inventory. Upon further experimenting I found that the phantom gate in my inventory was permanent no matter how many more gates I placed down, so I basically had infinite warped gates. Those infinite gates placed still functioned properly, but had no sound when opened or closed, or when broken trying to mine them, upon which they just disappeared. I tried restarting, putting the phantom gate in a chest and back, but the problem persisted.
