Xbox can't access realm if shut off console while on Minecraft home screen

I often turn my xbox off while on the Minecraft home screen. When I turn it back on and enter the Minecraft application, it loads quickly but the following message appears where I would normally access my realm; "Unable to connect to realms." The only way I have found to access them again is to close the application or restart it.
