gui.png improperly scaled in HUD

When the 256-square image gui.png is scaled 2:1 (512 pixels square), the HUD fails to account for the altered image size. This is not the case for blocks, items, textures, or any other images that I'm aware of. The consequences of this include mistextured hotbar, mob effects, beacon tier icons, & certain buttons. The image DUH.png displays a corrupt hotbar, with a celebrity appearance from MCPE-65491 in the top-right corner.
