I harvested 8 turtle eggs and placed them in a cage, then after waiting some 4 minecraft days they spawned and then i walked away from the area, when I got back all 8 of the baby turtles were gone.

there is one way to deal with this bug
once baby turtles were born, let them be attract to you using sea grass to avoid them from despawning.
