Witch's vertical attack is inept

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a creative flat world.

  2. /setblock 0 13 0 stone

  3. /tp @s 0 14 0

  4. /give @s bow

  5. /give @s arrow

  6. /summon witch 10 4 10

  7. /gamemode s

  8. Shoot the witch with the bow & arrow.

Expected result

The witch throws potions at you.

Actual result

The witch throws potions at your X, Z location, but only gets them 5 blocks up from the ground.

When a witch's X, Z offset from the player is < 5 or so blocks, the aim is even worse. Obviously this is due to a very low limit to the angle of the throwing.

Is this still an issue in the latest version? And if so, can you please add it to the affected versions?

Still an issue in 1.16.220. Load

and shoot the witch again to confirm. (For some reason the witch forgets it was targeting the player when you reload the world. Maybe another bug?)

Behavior still occurs, but I now understand this behavior has some technical uses such as automatic killing in certain mob farms and curing zombie villagers. Witches can be deliberately set up to miss a snow golem or iron golem and the splash potions allowed to hit another mob or redirected by water. I therefore recommend a Won't Fix or Works As Intended resolution.
