can't throw/move items in inventory

I was making so that my inventory was filling up and I had something in my hand and when my inventory got full I could no longer throw or move any items.  The thing that was in my hand was stuck there and I couldn't place it in chests or throw it out of my inventory, the hot-bar still worked if I closed my inventory but when I reopened it the problem persisted.  Once I restarted the game I could throw the item out of my hand and it worked fine after that.
