Mob spawns in lit up areas

In my survival world, I built a house. I placed torches all inside of the house. There is a door and no entrances that aren't closed off, yet mobs still spawn in my storage room. I have only had spiders, skeletons, and creepers spawn in there but I made sure to check and make sure they didn't come through the door. I am now 100 percent positive that the mobs are spawning inside of a lit up room and not entering through the door. I'm not sure if this is just a glitch in my world or if it's happened to anyone else, but I hope it can change soon because I am not looking forward to the day that a creeper blows up my chests with baller loot in them.

Unfortunately, it looks like your room is not adequately lit. Torches have a light level of 14, and spawning is based on the light level of the space just above the floor. Since the torch is 3 blocks up the wall, the space above the floor directly under the torch is at light level 12. Counting along the wall, the right half of the cobblestone chest and the left half of the sword chest are at light level 8. This is the lowest light level that blocks monster spawns. If you go diagonally from these two spots toward the middle of the room you can trace out the area that is protected from monster spawns by the torch on the wall. You may find it helpful to temporarily turn off smooth lighting (in video settings) to see how the light levels change block by block.

In previous versions of Minecraft, it was common for the cave monster cap to be filled by monsters hidden in small, inaccessible caves. The chance of this happening would increase as you spent time in an area, for example building a base or exploring and lighting visible caves. With the new despawning system in 1.16, the hidden monsters are now able to despawn regularly, so new ones can spawn in other places. Monsters should now regularly spawn on full blocks in places you have already visited but have not fully lit.
