I had downloaded Verizon 2.08 (which is the update right after the nether update and fixed minor bugs and crashes) which only took a couple of minutes and when I had started up the application it went to the new red mojang logo screen. 30 minutes had passed and nothing had changed.

The same thing happens for me. Ive waited hours on end and it hasn't loaded. The only way I know how to fix it is to delete Minecraft and re download it, but it comes back after you launch it a few times.
