Game Crashes when opening a Chest

I have had this once. I was opening a chest with wood log blocks to add new Crimson stem blocks. The game crashed out to desktop. I logged back in to find I had lost the items I had got in the nether and put in a previous chest. They where not in the chest and not in my inventry. I was however stood in front of the chests. I did however have the Crimson stem.
