From the Nether I enter a specific portal. I am released into a large square tunnel that bores out of the world. I fall down it and out of the world where I die most heinously and lose everything.
The portal used to go to a stronghold. Other portals seem to work fine... this one used to too... I've lost a lot and am hesitant to keep on keepin on...

Are you still having this issue? If you travel through the Overworld to the place where your portal exits are there chunks missing from the world?
