I can't play for an extended amount of time.

Hello! I have been playing Minecraft for quite some time. I got the game around a year or two ago on my Nintendo Switch. It has been going smoothly ever since the new update came out a few days ago. I could not play the game properly. It would take a long time to go on a server or I couldn't go on the server at all. When playing on a server, I would be frozen and I would be unable to play again. I would then have to forcefully quit out of Minecraft. When I do so, my switch screen would be frozen or it would say "The software was closed because an error occurred". I would then proceed to turn of my switch. I would then turn on my switch and try it again. I have done this three times in a row to play properly but I just could not. I would then give up and few depressed because all I want to do I play normally with a friend. I have been having this issue for a while now. The other day, I was playing with a friend on their world and at some point, my screen froze. It was like that for over thirty minutes and I decided to quit entirely. I am disappointed with this experience and I'm hoping to play this game normally. Thank you for your time.
