Newest update 1.16.20 crash / freezes whole Nintendo Switch system

I just want to add my two-cents into this discussion and confirm that I am also experiencing this issue on Switch with the 1.16.2 release. 

So far myself and my girlfriend have experienced this 'soft lock' (basically rendering our controller input useless and we are unable to access the game, move, or even go back to the switch menu) while doing any of the following:

• Starting the game and just navigating the menu

• Trading 'too quickly' with villagers

• Renaming items on an anvil

• Mining blocks

Honestly, it's making the game extremely unplayable at the moment. The first freeze happened immediately after updating and logging back in to my Microsoft Account, and all subsequent freezes have happened either in-game, or trying to close the actual Minecraft software in the Switch home menu.

• I find the worst part is often closing the app on the Switch after playing in a Realm it somehow freezes the entire Switch in its own Home Screen

• I have to long press the hardware power button to power cycle

• Ive first experienced this restarting the application to resolve an issue where my inventory and crafting wouldnt open as if i wasnt even pressing the x or y buttons

• I have reinstall the application from scratch hoping a clean reinstall would resolve the issue

• This did not resolve the freezing issue.

• I would imagine everyone who updates will experience this

• Im happy to troubleshoot more but I cant think of how any other Switch running this build could have better results

Absolutely, I’ve been having this problem too. I noticed that this error (for me at least) only started when I began loading worlds.

Please fix this problem as soon as possible as it makes Minecraft unplayable as just exiting the game for a split second completely bricks my Nintendo Switch.

My game keeps making my switch freezes and it's bad, have to hold power button to reset.....

Has Minecraft been logging everyone on Switch out of their Microsoft accounts too? It did that for me which not only forced me to log back into my account several times but it also has caused this freezing thing to happen to me too! I really hope they fix it soon.

This is game breaking. Leaving a world freezes the console.   No inputs work.  There's issues with logging in.  Makes minecraft unplayable. 😥 

And LOVE the error as occurred when i try to Close minecraft when it doesn't crash. 

I just want to add my experience as well.

Since updating to 1.16.20 on the Nintendo Switch I've encountered a lot of freezing. Trying to play splitscreen multiplayer on my realm.

• While playing splitscreen on a realm, after about an hour the game froze while we were both just walking around our base. I was able to hit the home button and tell the switch to close the game. After a few minutes the switch gave the message that there was an error and had to close the game.

• Then, after restarting the game and joining the realm the game froze again as the second player tried to join splitscreen. I was able to hit the home button again and tell the switch to close the game - at this point the switch system completely froze and I had to hold the power button to turn it off and back on.

• We tried a third and fourth time to both get onto the realm, once again unable to get two players to join splitscreen without it freezing and requiring me to hold down the power button to turn the machine off and on again.

• A fifth attempt saw us both able to get into the realm and play. We were both able to save and quit. Back at the Minecraft menu screen I pressed the home button and told the switch to close the game - at this point the switch completely froze again and I had to hold the power button down to turn it off.

So I've had the game/switch freeze when trying to close the game, and when trying to get a second player to join splitscreen on my realm.

The same thing happens to me, it freezes when I exit the game and in the realm and personal game it changes me to creative mode when I'm playing survival.

I will add some of my experience that I've discovered as well. I mainly only play on public servers and, after the 1.16.20 update, my switch has done the same thing where it freezes if trying to close the game. However, it also freezes if I try to type in chat or write on signs, although it unfreezes if I wait. Also, I've become unable to see other people's messages in the public chat, but if I type in it, after waiting for it to unfreeze, I can see my message just fine, and this only started happening after the update, because it was working entirely fine just before. Please fix this issue because playing the game on switch has just become too much of a hassle to tolerate.

I am expierencing similair issues. My entire system would freeze whenever I leave minecarft. Furthermore, When I test the same thing on another game, the switch doesn't freeze, meaning that this a Minecraft Nintendo issue, not a system issue. Also, I have attempted to reinstall Minecraft, but that just made things worse. All public servers (the hive, mineplex, etc) are displaying "Coming soon" and Realms couldn't connect. The entire game is unplayable at this point.

I am having similar issues plus more.

• I had to re login to Microsoft and my created characters were gone. I had to start over.

• I'm logged in and connected to the internet and have multiplayer ready. When I go into my sons and mines world, it says: "Oops! Your Microsoft Account was disconnected. To invite more players, sign in on the Main Menu and restart your world." But according to the Main Menu I am logged in to Microsoft.

• When I quit the game and closed the software my Switch froze for about a minute before closing the software.

do we know when this is going to be fixed

Hello. I have the same issues. My switch normally takes like 10 minutes to completely load all the log in information. But, when i'm playing it goes normally, but if i try to use the chat, it gets freeze around 5 seconds to 10 minutes. It's really annoying. Because i have my own realm and i can't use it, becuase all the time it's freezing. And the last time it never responses, and i had to make a forced restart to the console. Please resolve this issue as soon as posible

Everyone keeps saying that the game keeps logging them out of their Microsoft account and stuff but I personally have only had this issue once since the update. Which is the first time I booted the game after it updated. It happens once in a while so I didn't think much of it. But it hasn't happened to me constantly like a lot of you. I've only been having trouble with the whole console freezing when I close the game. Everyone also keeps mentioning they are playin on a Realm. I play on my friend's Realm sometimes but I haven't played on it since the update so I think the Realm part has nothing to do with the console freezing.

UPDATE: It hasn’t worked, the crash still occurs, and the Microsoft Account is not connecting either.

I am currently in contact with Nintendo. If you want to try, then say you have a problem with switch, then troubleshoot, then something else. Below i’m going to outline what I have done, though do it at your own risk.

They have currently told me to reset my system, then check for corrupt data, then if none is found then they want you to redownload the game (I am currently waiting for save data cloud to save)

if you open youtube instead of closing the app it will not crash your switch, it will only crash minecraft

Separate issue possibly: able to login and play, but froze when stuck in some sweet berries. Had to go to the switch home and force quit the game. No issues experienced prior to patch. Also on 1.16.20 her. 

Both watches in my house have experienced fully locked switch after a Minecraft freeze. Have to hard reboot the switch. Ver 1.16.20 no specific action causes freezing. No freezing episodes prior to patch

My gf and I are having the same problems with our switches crashing while playing . We just updated them to 1.16.2 today as well , any time I went home it would freeze my switch on the home screen .

I'm having this issue too. Whenever I disconnect from a world, Minecraft freezes. Whenever I try to go to the home menu, my entire switch freezes, and I have to restart the entire device. Plz fix soon... I rly wanna play from my switch... 😥

Bruh I've had to restart my switch probably 7 times today while trying to play online, it's getting really frustrating 

• The workaround for the freezing works for me.

Steps to close Minecraft or leave Realm without crash on Switch 1.16.20:

1. Press the home button

2. Launch YouTube instead of trying to close the app

3. Then close the app when YouTube prompts to do so

4. YouTube with close the app after a short time and then an error with show

5. You have now successfully closed Minecraft without a crash during the dark days of 1.16.20

Thank god it was not only me. until this issue is resolved going back to Minecraft legacy console edition

@Ryan Ashburn, it crashes when I press the home button (and then freezes the whole Nintendo Switch).

Please remove 1.16.100.51 from Affected Versions, the Beta isn't available on Nintendo Switch.

Playing single player, while signed out have Microsoft account, experiencing a lot of lag and system bog down. To the point of freezing and almost crashing, Items glitching, floating, not interacting. 

Just an fyi still having issues even when signed out, this is not just me but also gaming friends too, also on switch.

Fortunately I don't have it as bad. But the fact that people have it worse makes me feel uh not good.

The freezes have happened while I was putting messages in chat, but those were temporary.

Our Switch is definitely having these issues after the recent Minecraft update. We are constantly having to log into our Microsoft account after logging in, and sometimes it just sits there not doing anything instead of going to the aka.remote URL and code screen. And when we try to close out of the game, it just sits there and does nothing, or completely locks up the Switch. Very frustrating.

I literally just had the same exact problem. Like, only 10 mins ago. But it doesn't happen when I enter, it happens when I enter chat on any server. I wonder if the incidents are related.

Entire Switch system lockup when attempting to create worlds for singleplayer.

In addition to other comments on lag and in game crashes, etc., mine crashes with the new update whenever I go back to the home screen and try to close (requiring hard power off) and gets the Switch unusually hot.

Update: I just discovered it happens when I close the software, as well. They need to get this fixed soon.

My Switch randomly freezes or lags when I recently got it 5 months ago. My internet is great, but when I play single player, game randomly lags or frame drops for no reason. I have tons of storage on my system. It also freezes or crashes whenever I save and quite the game, making me force restart the Switch multiple times

The Microsoft account on Minecraft always logging me out whenever I enter the game. I have to keep logging in just to play multi-player and such.

for me when ever im on a realms and try to talk in the chat my game freezes and i have to restart my console for it to continue working. very frustrating 

I am getting the same issue! I was worried I was the only one and that my switch was messed up but I hope this is solved soon! I crash/freeze sometimes when I type on a sign Or type in chat, sometimes I just freeze before I join a world or when I leave one

For me i have this too but if i manage to get on. none of the worlds, servers, realms, or official minecraft servers are present everything is just blank. (Nintendo Switch)

when I try to load my game I get a black screen with the choice to get out of bed or open chat. Then the game crashes. It’s the 3rd day that I can’t connect

My game takes 20 mins to boot up every time... it’s been happening for about 2 months now and is extremely aggravating to have to wait for 20 mins just to get to the main menu screen. 

As i have clearly stated before jeez i do not have it that hard (it only takes 15 seconds to boot or 10 i am using a nintendo switch lite.

This is now the third time that my realm has crashed and then locked up my switch completely. For anyone who needs to know, hold the power button for 15 seconds to reboot.  I only use my switch to afk at farms during the day so I have no idea what is causing the crash.

Still waiting on the bug fixes, just do a go back on the update fix it and let it progress, my friends are still playing minecraft on their consoles and waiting for me still to get on. Its been 3 whole days with no minecraft, might as well Uninstall it, until it goes back to normal.

Started building a medieval town about 6 months ago, that world still crashes. But why is it you don’t have any problems when you create a new world? 🤔🤔🤔

I have found that in many instances it will eventually unfreeze itself. Sometimes it is seconds, other times it is minutes. It doesn’t always unfreeze after some time, either

Mine is not bad anymore it only freezes when i try to close it sometimes it works to close sometimes it freezes and the game is now playable for me. (nintendo switch lite)

Its kinda playable but when I play servers like the hive or cubecraft then when  ever I chat it freezes for like 30 secs which is enough time for someone to kill me.

On iOS (which also crashes since the latest update when signed in to a microsoft account, see MCPE-96184) the crashes are produced by DNS-Blocking (e.g., PiHole). Unblocking some Microsoft domains (vortex.data.microsoft.com and xboxlive.com.akadns.net) seems to be a workaround. Maybe that helps on the switch version as well...

Hi, I still having the switch freeze issue, I found I have this issue when I; close the game, use the chat, use a signal, name something in an anvil, basically when I use the console keyboard in the game, hope this can help to fix it.

I signed in to my Microsoft account to see any improvements, and I've noticed that it signs in and loads my skins extremely fast every time I open the game all of a sudden. Just wanted to say that. Also, if you restart your switch a couple of times in a row after opening the game, it seems that the entire switch tends to stop freezing when you close the game. It show the error message still, but at least that's better than the entire system freezing.

I think around a couple weeks or more than that, really hoping this bug won't happen again. Also Mojang has to give compensation to people who already have/purchased the realm.

Noticed that when playing on a realm on the Switch, when another player joins the realm, it freezes the Switch user.

Whenever I try to close the game or load another game it freezes my switch.

I noticed you can tap the power button on the top of switch to put it into sleep mode, then wake it up to and  then close the game. This can be a bit of a workaround to unfreeze quicker.

I'm afraid that if I keep playing Minecraft on the Switch while this bug is going on, it might do severe damage on the console, so I'm doing different games just to buy time when the bug fixes.

I dont think it would do anything permanent,  but that is a good idea still

If your worried about any of the freezes, maybe try completely shutting the system down and leave it off over night, because if it's just in sleep mode, it's still going to be running. If it is shut down, it might help since it's not running and for a long period of time 

I'm having the same problem. Before I could actually play and the problem was that when I left it would freeze but now I can't even get into playing. I tried logging out of my minecraft account since that seemed to help people, but it wouldn't even let me do that.

Same. Try archiving it and redownloading, all your save data will stay. That seems to stop the "in game" freezing.

I'm having the same problem on my Switch Lite, although my little brother does NOT have the problem on his Switch non-Lite.

UPDATES FROM MOJANG (if you can not see tham)

temporal workarounds: DO NOT SIGN IN TO MS ACCOUNT,archive then re-download and install

Archiving and reinstalling doesn't work for me. this is quite the bug because it completely tanks the whole system to the point I have to force shut down my switch

Noticed if I try to ride my donkey horse hybrid or if someone else does (other friends noticed this also) it causes a glitch screen for a sec then game freezes, sometime it unfreezes in witch case the animal disappears with all items or your killed while frozen and lose everything.. only happens 3 chunks away from house. Quiting and reloading does not fix, it ls all just gone. After this connection issues start happening. On a horse we can get 6chunks away b4 issue happens..  

Also before connection issues starts there's a glitch in the picture, just a quick flash onscreen that let you know all issues will happen. From lag to no connection and so on I noticed also the system gets really hot, almost like an over clock on a computer.... If I don't see that flash glitch the game plays fine, system doesn't hear up. ..

This is well known about currently, and the helpers, mods and developers know you are sad about this, but please don't continue to comment about having this issue. The devs are aware and are looking to fix this issue. It cannot be fixed instantly but will be fixed soon. Keep it to new info like what @unknown said.

Sorry had not seen any comments referencing the quick screen flash glitch and systems acting like an over clocked computer. I thought it might help them pin point the issue. especially as it started happening yesterday. Totally new to us...

I found some Info that might potentially be helpful about this particular issue. Whenever the console seems to freeze or get extremely slow responses, there is one particular function that still works 100% fine: The zoom feature!

For example: I launch the Minecraft software, than once I'm on the title screen I press Home, then my console ''freezes''. If I press any button, including long-pressing the Home button, the Screenshot button and even pressing or holding the Power button, it will do nothing or it will be extremely delayed. BUT, if I double tap the Home button to activate the Zoom feature, it will work right away, just as usual, without any delay whatsoever.

Now, I don't know exactly what that means but this shows that not the whole system is frozen. Hope this is helpful.

This is probably the wrong report, but this overheated and almost blew up my switch when attempting to use it with minecraft, being the only time it started up into minecraft.

Happening to me as well.  If it helps:

Digital or Physical game: Physical
Crash type: Complete system freeze upon game close
Other errors: 

1) When it doesn't freeze (rare,) it will still give an error message when trying to close the game.
2) Game load performance, maybe 15% of the time, is oddly VERY slow.  Often requiring a close of game, resulting in system freeze, then restart.
3) Unsure if related, but ability to view realms and connect to multiplayer games also greatly impacted since the last update.

Before finding this post, I had tried a re-initialization of the Switch and also removed the SD card.  Neither of these events improved the situation.   

I know we aren’t supposed to comment but I want others to see that you can lose all of your inventory with the crash too if you happen to die during the crash.Seems the game still thinks you are logged in.Was playing in a Realm when this happened.

No you got it wrong. That only happens since it's a realm so it's online. And since it's online it saves every second. This wouldn't of happens if it wasn't a online world or a online world of your friends. So If you created the world (NOT REALM) then it wouldn't have happened you would've kept your stuff.

 Happens to me as well! I lost my oldest horse, 90% of my villagers, my dog, my llamas, my cows, and my progress! Fix it Mojang please.

I'm on XBox 1 S and I never play online. After the newest update all my worlds are saying corrupted, or if they load it will crash my system. 

I used a friends hotspot to check what was new on the marketplace and my packs, and mine coins are gone. Won't let me sign in.

Its been a week already and hoping it won't take a whole "month" to finish. I know its because of the whole pandemic going on and we get it, lack of employees or time, but its a huge company I'm guessing here to fix a small issue.

It keeps crashing when I come out of the typing box and when I try to close it!

We have a dinosaurs' mod even before a bug fix, what is going to happen if my console my Nintendo switch gets damaged by rebooting it all over and over and over again? Are you going to pay us our Nintendo switch I don’t think so, so please just give us an update. This is not a minor issue. I just read the comment that you left above saying that on the meanwhile we can play like in the local network and try to not sing up in Microsoft account? Do you even get the concept that we are on quarantine because of the coronavirus I’m pretty sure that the majority of us play with our friends and this update has a never ending list of issues derived from the principal. Please understand that not everybody has the opportunity to play in local network because we like to play with our friends I think that most of us are in our houses because of the quarantine so I think it’s not a smart comment what you wrote down in their section above so please we hope an answer yes an answer of what is going to happen in the future, how long is going to take you to fix the bug. Thank you

Let's go back to the previous version that did not have this very serious error at least.

So, minecraft was such a nice game until now, 1.16.20 is only affecting switch users and not any other platform, why is that? just nintendo switch not xbox pc or mobile but just the switch?? the only game thats actually entertaining to me is minecraft and now i cant play it, i can barely even do anything in quarantine now that coronavirus is a thing disabling me from going to someone else's house, when the 1.16.20 update came out, i said oh cool piglin brute, what i was waiting for because i actually want to play minecraft and pvp, while im at pvp ill practice with these piglin brutes this will be so cool! 2 minutes later, my game crashes. i tried 17 times that day (no joke i actually counted how many times my game crashed) look, im leaderboard and someone will steal my spot, i wont be leaderboard anymore, and since most of my friends are leaderboard they consider me useless because i lost so much pvp experience to the point that im actually bad luck for my team. if this gets fixed soon, that will be much appreciated but if it is not fixed soon then i dont know, maybe just go ahead and quit minecraft because i have no choice and lose all my best friends.

and this isn't even in progress yet. this is a major issue, its not like i want to be kicked out of my favorite game whenever i freaking log in. i have tried to enter every day for 2 weeks now, i only ever succeeded in getting to a server once thats more than a 1/100 chance considering how many times i launch the game, thats about a 10% chance of me actually being able to log onto a server, and probably 0.1% if i dont crash while im in the server, this is just too much for people who just want to play some game and actually escape reality to have fun, this is their only way of escaping reality and now it just doesnt work anymore? "wow im just going to go back to being imprisoned in my own house for the rest of 2020 yay how entertaining, now im just going to be isolated from all of my best friends for the rest of the year yay, my friends want to keep in touch with me but no, i cant because the only form of communicating with my friends is disabled and now i have to lose all my friends because i didnt keep in touch with them and they will think that i abandoned them for a new group of friends, how exciting! i get to lose all of my good friends! hooray for 1.16.20!"

srsly its kind of annoying and i would really like for this major bug to be fixed because it is becoming a problem for not just me but the entire nintendo switch-minecrafters community, everyone would appreciate it if you guys fixed it because i really want to get back to playing with my friends.

I've now lost an entire week of a monthly VIP membership that i had just renewed on a server thanks to this. I apologize for commenting this here, but shouldn't this also be considered an issue for the people who solely rely on the switch to play?

"This is a bug tracker, not a forum"...but come on guys!  It's been over a week now.  Aside from the fact that it wasn't properly tested on Switch before it was pushed to production, let's be straight about what's really going on?  (My son's going to be pretty disappointing when this game goes back to the store for a refund...just purchased it...not a great first impression on Mojang, Microsoft and even Nintendo!)

Are we getting a refund for our realms for however long it takes this issue to get fixed? I just had to tell my 6yo she's not allowed to even play until this stops messing up our switch. How has this gone on for so long with no patch?

i literally cant even play the game anymore without it crashing on the title screen, i actually cant play the game anymore! im very dissapointed and would be best if mojang would start working on it because switch players want to play too, this is a major bug and needs to be fixed, no switch player can even play the game anymore, not the best impression of  mojang to veterans who have played for more than 6 years like me. i expected the 1.16.20 update to be a hotfix but instead its more like forbidding everyone on a certian platform from playing the game, heck! even logging in leads to crashing! it would be very appreciated if the team started working on this because i have played minecraft for over 6 years now and this is actually the worst experience i have had of the game

I know it was already said that it is not for comment. But it is important that Mojang does not indicate what will happen to those of us who have a contracted service (realm) and cannot play due to the error that the game presents. We hope something about it Mojang.

The game crashes/ Freeze's every time I try to close the game and I have to do a hard reboot for my switch to work properly again.

it's been more than a week! I just got the game and can't even play it. just test new updates before you publish them...

i had a weird experience with this bug so when i played it on the first day of the update the game was toatally fine the bug started to happen after one or two days of gaming

Yeah well now I get error messages every 3 seconds on the main menu screen.

I just updated to the 1.16.21 patch and see the error message frequently like a few others, but now my Realm says that I must update to the most recent patch to play, even though I have already updated to the newest patch.

this update is even worse than before. I still cant play with my friends and there error messages every second I play.

Same happened to me. Just leave watch YT for an hour or so and it should be fixed.

If it is consistent then you should create a new ticket

This has been happening to my daughter and I as well since we updated. We are both on Nintendo switches. More often than not we have to hold the power button until it automatically shuts off because we can’t even get the screen to show the “power options” menu. We usually only play on realms so it’s frustrating that we can’t really do that.

Edit 2: It's random when it decides to freeze when typing in chat/on signs. Sometimes it freezes for like a minute, sometimes a couple seconds, sometimes not at all, but freezes will happen regardless

Edit 3: I probably should've said this before, but, even though I sound like I'm complaining, I'm grateful of the huge improvements in the issues that were happening and am able to play again.

Just updated and tested it. Still sleeping for over a week. Thanks Mojang for the update that didn’t help 😕

i was so excited when they released 1.16.21 and yes i didnt freeze when closing minecraft but i froze once while typing(unfroze after a while) thanks mojang i thought this would take a long time

Sorry for the slightly off-topic response...but...Thank you seriously, seriously, so much for working so hard to fix this quickly. It was really disappointing and causing a lot of problems. With the new update I can’t join realms or servers.

The new update solved it all for me. So I'm not sure why it didn't solve urs

Our switch has applied the update, after about 30 minute game play across cross platform game  it crashed and locked the switch again. ( having spoken with my lad,  he was in the text/chat when it froze up.

Issue connecting to existing server host by PC, was able to connect to a new server but then crashed after 30 minutes.

Ive bean playing the hive for like 2-3 hrs today and I hadn't had 1 crash

oh also the chat freezes for about  30 seconds when I play my switch then it unfreezes

I bought Minecraft (nintendo Switch) yesterday, i tried to play with someone from PS4 platform, but we couldn't, we alway get conection problem?? ... however i have not got any problem with the game i mean playing alon

This is really frustrating. I'm still not able to upload a world to my Realm. I extended my Realms Plus subscription when 1.16.21 came out to see if it was patched. It's not. It's been a problem for about a month and a half now and it's such a major issue that it's just disappointing that it hasn't been fixed in 1.16.21 even though it was supposed to be fixed in 1.16.20 anyways. I'd really like to use my realm for the reason I bought it.

I still get the error message and the upload fails. I've been really excited to start an Anarchy Realm with my friends but I can't.

i had to reopen minecraft for me to be able to connect to a cross platform world. i was having a bad internet (and i thought that that was why) but that wasn't the problem. however, i did freeze once when i tried to type, so i don't think that issue has been solved yet

Microsoft login broken!

I get kicked out of Microsoft account as soon as I log in if it even let's me log in... Keeps taking me to save to Ms account or leave on device not matter how many times I've had to "log in"  idk if anyone else in group is having issue till 11pm tonight when we r to meet up... If we can log in...

Other things I and a few friends have notice.. after on and off playing (must have been on 5 or 6 times today.. plus yesterday. For me alone) 

NEW ERROR MESSAGE! Not enough space to save... I have 23.1gb on system, 41.6gb on SD card and game is set to save to Microsoft account... Idk how there wasn't enough space to save my game.. cause a crash and reboot of game, loss of 3 hours of game play, items and horse.. not counting what friends lost...

Main screen, slow to load. Only one error message when loading main screen per person. No code for error.

Lag when playing on single person world, not bad but just enough it Buggs you, slow loading of chunks.(nice x-ray glitch.

Mojang, I am still experiencing issues. I cannot connect to realms, I cannot connect to servers, and the game still freezes when I exit the game or when I type, although it lasts a few minutes. this patch slightly fixed the issue

So I was having all the same issues after the recent update, then the hotfix fixed all the freezing and crashing on the switch in our realm so thank you!

But I am still having to login multiple times (everyday at least sometimes more frequently) and it never was an issue until the same recent update that caused other problems. This is happening to at least 2 other switch owners that I play with daily. Also when I do log in and the “Let’s Play” screen pops up, after closing it the main menu never returns and I’m left watching the nether full screen until I close the Minecraft app and reopen it on the switch.

I’m also having a login issue now.  I have to use the aka.ms/remoteconnect to log in every time I open Minecraft. Super annoying.

Login issues still abound on Switch. Hotfix seems to have fixed crashing for me which is nice but the integration with online features like MS Account, Realms, Servers, and Marketplace are all broken.

The same as all these other people, I have to login multiple times a day as well, also, I just recently noticed this, typing in chat or on signs in a regular world works fine, no freezing, but, if you try to use chat in any servers, the whole game still freezes momentarily at varying lengths. Thank you though for the most recent fix, because I can play it now but my membership on one of the servers is being wasted due to not being able to speak to others properly.

It's getting progressively worse over time since the release.  It used to take one or two visits to http://aka.ms/remoteconnect, yesterday it was probably a dozen times before it actually worked, and today it's completely dead again as of writing this.

I thought the update was supposed to improve the stability of the switch version. It did for the first like 8 hours after the update.

Edit: I've discovered that archiving and re-downloading the software can solve the issue temporarily, however closing the game and restarting it can cause the problem to happen again. Otherwise, I was able to type in chat and play perfectly fine for a good couple of hours before I went to bed and woke up to see the issue again after turning on the game.

the update was so usless i am still having a poroblem with the servers and sometimes freezing when i type something.

I've been bored waiting for my realm to let me upload my world to it. It's been an issue for more than a month and I've spent 16 dollars for the one feature that doesn't work. I'd just like to use my realm to make an Anarchy. I've been waiting for a while. It's hard to stay patient. Anybody else having issues with uploading a world to a realm?

For the amount of time I've had to spend re-logging-in at https://aka.ms/remoteconnect (for my son), I could have reverse-engineered it to find a proper workaround...hmm...

My son is having this issue, and he cannot connect to multiplayer on his Switch. I have Bedrock for Windows on my PC as well as the Switch, and I could not connect to play with him on the PC version, it said that he was not online and not playing. But, when I went to my Switch version of the game, it showed that he was there and playing, but when I tried to connect with him, it would just load and load and not connect at all. His account is active, it is just not showing up. He has tried resetting, and relogging, and it was working until this update.

My friend uses switch and has this problem too. Like stated at the top, his switch crashes whenever trying to access a realm or multiplayer world.

it is crashing a lot more on ios than before. add ios to the affected platforms

Can confirm. I cannot play or even close the software without the entire system freezing up.

Can anyone confirm whether or not this issue is being worked on and what the progress is?  The last tweet from 8/20 said that 1.16.21 should fix this and there's been no movement since.

My scenario:

• Start game

• Re-sign into Microsoft account

• Begin playing

• Within 10 minutes blocks no longer disappear when broken nor do they appear when placed. (Still able to walk through or be stopped by, just visually not there)

• Soon after, inventory and chest/item opening causes a loading bar > 10 seconds.

• Eventually, software closes stating an error.

I get the same results with split screen play, only with a faster timeline to unplayability.

@Charisma Corona I have discovered this problem too. I thought that had been solved when I saw that the software had an update, because that had been the biggest downside of the glitch for me. I was disappointed when it hadn't been, and when I play with my friends online I have to text them just to say something. I created a new issue to try and get this solved - MCPE-98778

all of the icons for layers and my account wont load.

I know MCPE 98923 is resolved but my chat is still doing the same exact thing so it's really annoying when in multiplayer 

I think this is fixed now, at least for me. I've been playing for a few weeks and haven't had any issues with freezing.

I've only had freezing on chat for like 1 minute tops is still anoying.

Sometimes I think the game crashed by the chat so I turn my switch off and at the last second the game starts playing again. ;.;

Ive been told by a fellow switch user that they got an update yesterday 1.16.40. Its been 24hrs and I haven't got the update. I'm in Australia they are in America. Any else have it?

so for people who didnt get the update:

check if you're connected to wi-fi

press plus while selecting minecraft on the home menu, then click on software update. click via the internet and if there is any update, install it. if not, check if you already have it. i got the update yesterday so it may take some time for you too. hope this helps

Just to update: checked after work yesterday and the update was finally available. From what I could find online while I was waiting they have been rolling out the update over the past week, which is why people got it at different times.

Pretty unlikely anyone from Mojang will read an extra comment on a 180+ comments ticket, but hey, here's an attempt.

As pretty much everyone else, I had the Microsoft account logon issues on 1.16.20 which seemed to have been fixed in 1.16.21, and Minecraft + MS account worked fine for a little while. Now for the last couple weeks, the issue has resurfaced by means of not persisting the Microsoft account connection, even though the device link and the Minecraft UI confirming everything is fine upon granting the access via aka.ms/remoteconnect (pretty much the same as reported in MCPE-96376).

I just noticed the installed version is now 1.16.40, and really hoped it would have fixed the issues, to no avail.

Hoping to have some sort of official word somewhere as in to what is going on.

Yep still not working here 

Hello. In my case, to load the game it takes almost 20 minutes (freezes like 12 in a black screen and then 8 in the Mojang one); and when I try to play, most of the times the game keeps crashing. That's why is impossible for me to play in my worlds. I had to save the data on the cloud and delete it on the console to play, at least, in another worlds (obviusly the waiting time was reduced to just a seconds, but the idea is to be able to play on our own worlds). I've tried reinstalling the data and game, deleting some mash-up packs...

Btw, before the update the wating time was like a 60% less, but still were crashes like now.

@Nikolaos Gollini the black screen on loading issue is tracked at MCPE-62708. Make sure your Switch OS is updated as that has helped some users.

According to the duplicate MCPE-98778, this is still occuring even after the hotfix.

Even when I log out of my Microsoft and Nintendo accounts, the game still crashes, I know that the world isn't corrupted because the world opens perfectly fine about 10% of the time

Mine Doesn’t Work

It's been a while now, has this issue still not been fixed? I haven't played Minecraft because of this issue, for a little over 2 months or so now. Not really clear if anything's been fixed, or if it's even being addressed right now.

@TheTAF109 Its perfectly fine when signed in to your Nintendo/Microsoft Accounts. It's still a issue when logged off/ being offline.

@Jesse Kohn It's really not. I haven't been able to sign in for 2 months.
