If playing using the PS4 Remote Play feature, when launching Minecraft, it is unable to sign into the PlayStation Network, the button will appear on the main menu screen to sign in, but selecting it will do nothing at all & will not allow you to sign in.
Launching the game directly (so not using RemotePlay) will then allow the game to successfully sign in, and in pretty much all cases, will automatically sign in each time.
I've tried deleting all user data for Minecraft to test this issue, as well as a fresh reinstall (the copy is a digital download), and each time when trying to launch the game and sign in using RemotePlay, it will fail upon signing into the PlayStation Network, and as such, will also then fail signing into your Microsoft Account.
Again, in all similar scenarios, when running the game locally on the system and not via RemotePlay, it will sign in correctly each and every time.

This appears to affect other parts of the game too:
Realms & Servers are unavailable if the game is launched via Remote Play, realms are not visible and servers simply display 'Coming soon'
Character Skins do not load, nor does any marketplace content relating to skins. You are presented with the default Steve or Alex skins only.
Minecraft Store is inaccessible, and responds with 'We're unable to connect to the Minecraft Store. Try checking your Internet connection'
This is still an issue with v1.16.201.
Relaunching Minecraft from the PS4 directly (not remote play) resolves these issues & allows the game to be played. Once launched, as long as the game is not closed, you will still be able to access all content via Remote Play, even after putting the PS4 to standby mode.
If Minecraft is launched from Remote Play itself, and not on the PS4, then all the above issues can be observed.
can confirm that its still a bug on 1.16. Starting the game locally, then connecting by remote play works.
Can confirm that this bug is also present on the PS5 system just as described in the comments above.
I updated today to v.2.32 and unfortunately, it is worse now. When I try to open the game while in remote play the game crashes as soon as the load screen finishes. If you open the app while not in remote play it is fine and you can then go into remote play. Error code (CE-38700-8) displays when the game crashes.
I'm having the same issue as Kcaz above, with the latest version on PS5. It crashes on boot without fail.
Glad to hear there's a workaround at least, by opening while not in remote play.
I bought Minecraft on PS5 to play with my son, because the Mojang->Microsoft account migration feels like a pipe dream at this point, and I'll never get my original purchase of the game back from all those years ago. So it was very disheartening to see this issue after finally cutting my losses and buying it a second time. I really hope something can be done about it, as I've never experienced this with any other game.
Is this still an issue in the latest version? If yes, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter)?

I have this exact same issue no matter how many times I try. If I go to the PS4 Pro and close Minecraft and reopen it it logs into PSN properly.
