Minecraft stopped working on Surface Pro X (and other Snapdragons, too?)

Since late last week, Minecraft crashes on start and is impossible to play.

Can't explain what caused it. One evening, I was playing, the next day it had stopped working. It doesn't look as if any updates came through that night.

After first install/app reset, the app closes silently right after connecting to my Microsoft account.

Repeating it later, it silently closes during the loading splash screen.

Reproduction is easy: Get a Snapdragon device (Surface Pro X) and try it. 100% reproducible.

And yes, I tried the usual:

  1. un-install + re-install --> no fix

  2. reset app --> no fix

  3. check for updates --> no fix

Can confirm issue is on at least one other Windows on ARM platform. Same issue on a Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS (Snapdragon 850).

I've tried:

  • Application Uninstall/Reinstall

  • Application Reset (inside settings)

  • Windows Recovery - Full Reimage, delete settings, applications, files

and still have the same issue. I'm able to sign into my Microsoft account on first run (after install or Application Reset) but it then closes/crashes to desktop. On subsequent runs the application will crash during the loading splash screen.

Some additional information:

Minecraft only seems to crash when I try to connect to my xbox account. When I don't connect to xbox after reinstalling/resetting, Minecraft starts and runs just fine.

It looks like the xbox account/connection is triggering the crash, although I'm not sure it's the root cause.

Other games run fine when signed in to xbox.

Seconding what Dom states above. As long as I don't connect to my MSFT account, the game runs fine (aside from online features which require the account). I can create a new world, play, build, whatever - as soon as I try to log into XBL, the game crashes. On subsequent loads, it crashes on startup. If I reset the app, it works again as above, and logging into XBL breaks it again.

I'm on a Yoga C630 / Snapdragon 850, looks like this might impact all ARM64 laptops.

Is this an "Xbox networking" issue? On my surface pro x, it does not have the setting "Xbox networking" under the gaming setting. on an intel based windows 10 device(running the same build), it does.

Same issue on the ARM-based Samsung Galaxy Book S. Game crashed when looking into Microsoft account.

Same issue Surface Pro X when logging into MSFT account. Any updates?

Edit, disabling wireless gives me the info that the WIN10 Arm platform is no longer supported as of October for online play.

This is incredibly unfortunate as the ability to play Minecraft with my son was on the decision tree for the purchase of the Surface Pro X. Please reconsider your decision as I'll be requesting a refund for the Windows minecraft :/
