Cannot place redstone dust

I cannot place redstone dust on any surface in the game. When I right click, there is no animation and nothing happens at all. I can place regular blocks, torches, etc., with no issues. I kept the original version of Minecraft (not the Windows 10 beta) and tried loading it up, and I can place redstone by right clicking without any problems. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug of some kind?
