0.15.6 - Still is not fixed.
As you can see, when placing upwards, the bar is always incorrect (lying horizontally instead of vertically) and the arrow is always facing upwards. This is one of the many bugs this block has and it is reducing the game quality in my opinion. The block is, besides being weird-looking, very ununderstandable.
PLEASE NOTICE: This also applies to all side textures when placing the block upwards!
Please fix it!
Actually, redstone is not placable currently. This is not a bug.

The scenarios:
You hold Item1 and you use paddles to start moving:
As soon as you use one of the paddles, item goes downwards, outside of the canvas.
You still hold Item1 and you stop the boat by stopping pressing the paddle buttons:
When the paddles stop spinning, your hand goes upwards to get in the canvas, then it goes downwards, outside of the canvas, and the selected item gets in the canvas directly after, moving upwards.
You have an empty slot selected, therefore you see an empty hand in the lower-right corner, and you start moving a boat using the paddles:
As soon as you start moving the boat, using the paddles, your hand instantly disappears.
You have an empty slot selected and you stop using the paddles, stopping the boat:
As soon as you release the buttons, your hand instantly appears.
