REALMS-11961

Random tick speed keeps reverting to 1

Current Operating Systems:

  • Minecraft Windows

  • Minecraft iOS

  • Minecraft Android Device

  • Essentially Minecraft Bedrock Realms as a Whole

So there’s this unresolved bug since 1.20 until now in realms and it has been quite a hassle for someone who’s been religiously paying Realms Plus since 2021. Tick Speed is an essential in our realms, but there’s this bug that keeps reverting the Realm’s Tickspeed (that we had always set to 5) to 1. Regardless of what you do, the Realm’s Tickspeed will always revert to 1.

Other Alternative Methods I’ve done that did not fix it regardless:

  • Editing it through the Main Realm Edit Log (the pencil beside joining the realm), and setting it manually back. Had no effect and reverted it back to 1.

  • Editing it in game via Settings > Game > Tickspeed, and setting it manually. Had no effect and reverted it back to 1.

  • Resetting the TickSpeed and inputting it manually back. Had no effect.

I’m not sure if I have seen other people talk about this bug on other social platforms, but I have seen a similar post (REALMS-11759).  I am surprised no one is assigned to fix it yet. As small of a bug this may seem, the performance in game on realms, regardless of how stable your connection is or how good your device is, FPS is different from TPS, and this is quite a major bug that requires to be fixed asap. Huge inconvenience for those who pay for realms, despite seemingly looking like a minor bug.

Can confirm that the tick speed is broken. I can’t change it from 1 on my Realms server. I can change it no problem on any offline world. It’s very frustrating that I have to sit around and wait for my crops to grow because the tick speed can’t be changed to a higher value. No command or setting change fixes it. Please look into this ASAP!!

Hey there – we just shipped a service side fix so that we are properly retaining random tick speed and other game rule adjustments across sessions. There is still the client bug where the value will show as "1", but the changed value is properly saved to the world when the world is uploaded, the game rule is adjusted via in game commands, or the value is updated through the ui menu. We will get the menu updated to properly reflect the correct value, but at least it will work properly in game now 🙂

Note that adjusting other settings in the UI may end up resulting in tick speed being reset back to 1 because that is the value entered upon leaving the screen. If that happens, change it again and it should persist until another settings update.

Fix will roll out with 1.21.70
