Stuck in spectator mode

In Realms, my friends and I are stuck in spectator mode. We can’t switch to any other game mode. We’ve tried to force survival mode before launching the realm, we’ve tried /gamemode survival, creative, spectator, and adventure <target>. We’ve also tried F3+F4. Each attempt brings up the message “Your game has been updated to Spectator mode” “[@: Set ______’s game mode to Spectator mode” Set own game mode to Survival Mode”

This was never a problem in the past. Only since updating. We hadn’t played in a few months, updated our world to newest version (1.21.11), then encountered the issue. We were in spectator mode before updating the world and launching. First thing we did after getting into the world was try to get out of spectator. No luck so far, please help!
