On the home screen of minecraft.net, the price in britain displays as "17,95 £".
To be correct with British English, it should be "£17.95" (Moving the £ and changing comma to dot).

That's not quite true. For Euros at least, the position of the € sign depends on the language. In English, Dutch, Irish and Maltese it's in front, in all other EU languages it's behind, like this: 100 € (see also http://publications.europa.eu/code/en/en-370303.htm#position). I assume the same is true for other currencies as well.
You write every currency like that.
Example:
€ 100
$ 100
£ 100
¥ 100
But almost everyone ignores it.
