Not sure if this is a bug but I noticed when you change your name you cant change your name to a name that has been used previously yet that name is not being used currently by anyone.
ex: Name was used by a player 3 years ago and is not currently claimed but it says its currently being used

Please provide the name you're trying to use and your current name, including screenshots would be appreciated.
If the name has been used within the last 37 days, then it's still blocked. If however this period has exceeded, it is most likely the username is blocked by Mojang - typically for being offensive.
In rare cases like "bird" it is not obvious why the name is blocked, but is most likely due to psudo-deletion (refunding payment)
Regardless, this isn't a bug and you'll unfortunately have to pick a new username.
I'll go ahead and close this bug as it's fairly old. If I recall we did have a name change issue around the time this bug was reported, but it has since been fixed.
If you are still experiencing issues with changing a name, open a new bug and mention the profile name you are attempting to change to, and we can look into it further. Thanks!
