If I try it it says: Oops! Something went wrong and we couldn't change your profile name. Are you sure you entered the correct password? If the problem persists, please try again later. And I obviously entered the right password.

Hello David, please try first logging out and logging back in on minecraft.net, and then change your profile name. It might be that your browser has cached your credentials which we now consider as no longer valid.
