Same, although the latest snapshot won't work either. Running on Ubuntu 16.04 with OpenJDK 8.0, just tried installing Oracle Java 9.0.1 and it did not solve the problem. Deleted the entire .minecraft folder and started over. No luck = I'm stuck.
