I can confirm that I'm having the same issue on my Lumia 650 running Windows 10 Mobile 15063 and MC:PE 1.0.55.

I'd really love for this to be fixed.

I do have villagers in my world but they are about 1000 blocks in the opposite direction underground.
This was on a single player world.

After leaving hostile mobs for a while, I then came back and am now getting mob drops back...
