I'm having this bug on my server as well. Breeding worked yesterday, hasn't worked since. Willing to upload footage or whatever it'll take to get the mods to not just shitcan this one.
That's likely because it's getting more momentum dropping from higher up, resulting in it hitting the bottom and thus breaking, whereas if you drop it from a lower height, it'll just float in the column.
