I can confirm this on Linux with Minecraft 1.6.4. I need the window class for my application launcher. It basically monitors the window class to show in the icon whether the application is running or not, and also once I click the icon if it should bring it to the front or launch new instance. As it is when minecraft has no window class I can't set it to monitor anything at all.
