That sounds nasty, don't worry, New versions will kill that bug, All you have to do is wait for a new version of Minecraft, you never know when the bug will be killed, maybe 1.14.5 or 1.15 or even 2.0.0! You might even be a old 100 year old granny/grandpa at the time that bug will be killed! You said it is gray at the top, actually it looks if it was snow at the top, there you go, that bug makes the blocks snowy! 😉 Good luck! My profile is here.
