I was digging a hole just before I left the game. When I came back about an hour or so later, my mobs were gone. They were not all on chunk borders, and I was in multiplayer but not a server. I traveled about a chunk or two, but everything was still visible. The previous play session lasted a couple of hours. The despawns were near two active spawn points and one was changed during the session.I did experience some lag.
