My saddled and armored horse and saddled donkey, both tied with leads to a post, disappeared. I was working directly underneath them creating mine rails. They were on sand, but that sand was on sandstone and other stone as well. (I was around 30 levels below when it happened.)
I keep copies of saved games for this kind of problem, but lost all of my rail work for that outing. (That horse is just irreplaceable!)
