I tried it and it added one item to the number of items thrown into the Hopper, if you put in on a chest and take the items out of the chest. May work by taking the items from a the hopper or a dispeser/furnace/... too. Works with any item I tested it and in 13w01b. Sry for bad English.

I filled 2 dispensers with 9 stacks of diamons each and let them pass throug 3 Hoppers. The last chest in the last chest there were almost 40 stacks or diamonds. (belongs to 3 screenshots)
