This issue is still occurring on 1.20.81

This was all done without the server ever going into creative mode (survival only server) and no cheats enabled.

The only thing I observed is that one of the members of the server killed themselves while trying to use one of the end gateways (maybe threw the pearl into the brick of the portal instead of into the center?) - when that happened, the portal became useless.
