After a quick test, the beta seems to have fixed this bug.

I'd much prefer the Java parity though, It just makes more sense for it not to check for logs

Perhaps tree growth shouldn't detect podzol? Similar to the mechanic of regular dirt, podzol shouldnt block growth either.
