We are having the same issue with our realm. This seems to be exaggerated when there are players in parts of the world that are far apart, but it makes the game almost unplayable for everyone. You could consider it unplayable for tablet users, as they already have performance issues, this just makes it even worse.
I saw that there are notes for client-side improvements in the upcoming snapshot, hopefully, this is addressed there.
