This is still an issue in all versions up to and including 14w04a.

I also couldn't reproduce this. Sometimes problems like this can also occur if you create a world, delete it and then create a new one with the same name.

I believe Advanced OpenGL is there to try to optimize performance by using some advanced OpenGL techniques, so apart from when it isn't implemented properly (by drivers or software such as games) it shouldn't make much difference at all visually. At least that's my understanding of it! 🙂

A good workaround for me, as mentioned above a few times, is to turn VSync off and to set Performance to Balanced. As for the graphical glitches, where chunks are not rendered at certain distances/angles (not a chunk loading problem), turning Advanced OpenGL off is a workaround. Of course, these are only workarounds and not a fixes... I am finding the problem much more obvious in 13w36a and 13w36b, and although that might be partially because I usually have OptiFine installed, which is obviously not compatible with the snapshots, I don't remember it being quite this bad in vanilla.
