You are probably right, I did the test with my own villagers in a duplicated version of the world where they went missing. I stood outside of the simulation distance for a few days, then went to check if anything had happened.

It's unfortunate because now I can't trust the world anymore if they have a random chance of disappearing

I could not get the villagers to despawn even outside the simulation distance so perhaps it is fixed in the new update?

Minecraft version 26.32 as well

I’ve just had two villagers despawn within a month, so I believe that I am also experiencing this bug. They were both nametagged, have beds, and one had a job + was traded with (the other was a nitwit)

Never had anything happen before in 3 years of having my world, so I highly doubt they disappeared because of death
