The bug is that the detection radius for zombies appears to have been errantly set insanely high. They're coming from any distance from any loaded section of the map rather than within a short radius around the player or villagers. In addition, they are not despawning as a result of the high detection. Whether this is actually a bug or feature, it's causing lag nearing the point of unplayability in single player.

Incredibly annoying as it's causing some major update issues, I assume it's from the all tracking/pathing going on. Once night time comes around, I have no choice but to fight zombies all night long or sleep before they come. The lag effectively doubles the night period unless I try to keep the numbers down. The sky will slingshot back and forth. The number spawning seems to be odd too. I've got a screenshot of almost 30 of them swarming my house. That doesn't include the other houses in the village I'm in.

Ignoring them and trying to mine means double the time to break blocks as well. Anything broken immediately reappears, then gets broken after the time it took to break it passes again. During the day, this doesn't happen.

It has made for a rather terrifying feature though. Zombies seem to run now. If they sense a new path, they'll very quickly bolt for it. I broke a gate trying to get at some. They found it and 10-15 were banging at doors in about 2-3 seconds. They just flooded through the hole.

Sorry Tim, but you're wrong. This was occurring on my personal vanilla minecraft server. Absolutely zero mods whatsoever. It has, however, been resolved since the 1.4.3 update. I simply forgot to mark it. If you've found a plugin that's causing this issue, then that's a separate issue. You should certainly report it to the creator.
