Despawing the items is not normal. Not under the circumstances I am reporting. I am not saying things are despawing after dying. I'm saying things are despawing from our person after saving and exiting. The next time we open the game random items will have disappeared from our persons, from chests, from inside our houses (in reference to multiple anvils and blast furnaces,) and outside our homes (in reference to named animals.)
I understand that items will despawn if they are just sitting somewhere after death or if for instance your inventory is full and you are fishing. Once they get like 30 or 40 blocks they will despawn. That despawing process literally has NOTHING to do with the way things have despawned from us.
Last night while fishing I had an enchanted rod with Lure 2, Luck of the Sea 2, and mending. The rod was on my person. I saved and exited as normal. When I loaded the game today my rod was no where to be found. That has absolutely nothing to do with the despawing process you claim is "normal."
