It looks similar, but it's not random. It does freeze, no entities can be interacted with and blocks don't drop anything. If it doesn't crash and I save and quit, I am placed right next to my bed again, like I didn't go anywhere. And it seems to happen if the game is open to LAN, whether or not somebody is connected.
