This is not a modded issue. None of the mods I have installed would do anything. But to further prove it, here it is on vanilla.

I also believe this is probably related to MC-251509

I have done that xray glitch in all 360 degrees and not found any small caves nearby the mountail. I have also spawned about 3 iron golems right about where I hear the noise and they don't react and wander off.
