This also happened to me with my iPhone 6. I tried to load the game under wifi, but it keeps crashing. Apparently the game loads up as intended when the phone is running on mobile data.
this also applies to baby drowned. whenever a baby drowned swims up and there's a block just above the water, the baby drowned takes damage whenever it's in contact with the block.
