That seems to make sense. However, I still don't see how it would play immediately (or rather, when it is called for) when I have the resource pack installed.

Very strange. At first, I thought I needed to turn my speakers up very high, but when I reached that line it began playing at normal volume (and of course, almost blew out my speakers).
My music volume was at 100%.

But I have a theory.

I have been doing most of my end credits testing on my server, which is running 1.7.2 (ask bukkit, not me). Both of the times the music played, it was on this server. Maybe it works (on a delay) in 1.7.2, but not 1.7.4, since i have tested it on 1.7.4 singleplayer worlds to no avail.

Updated Update:
Tested in vanilla, song does begin playing, but not until line:
"To cure it of sorrow would destroy it. The sorrow is part of its own private task. We cannot interfere."

So, the music does play, it's just on a delay. Whether this delay is intended, we will not know until DInnerbone/Jeb/other developer confirms.

Update:
I just tested the credits using a resource pack. The modified music file (the one I added) did in fact play, but it didn't start until about 30 seconds into the credits, which is okay. The modified music file then continued for its entire duration without any errors.

I have not yet tested this in vanilla, but i would assume it works similarly.

Typically, when I use /summon or /give, I use the following syntax:

/summon [mobname] ~ ~ ~ {display:{Name:"Whateverthenameis"}}

This typically works, and the mob summons with the name "Whateverthenameis"

Try that syntax.
