When using the character editor and wearing alex's boots the bottom is also missing, it just becomes the character's skin color, but if you use that same avatar on MC Earth the bottom is gray like its supposed to be. I tried on IOS.

This happened to me too, but I was playing with someone and only I could see the patch of rainbow grass (the world wasnt mine)
