MC-148438 Changing Dimensions Causes Server Lag Duplicate

Comments

Fair enough, I'm just concerned that if they haven't fixed it since 1.11... they're not taking it very seriously. And understandably so, because it wasn't really game breaking, just more of a performance issue.  But I'm glad they're now finally tracking it... maybe this helped catch their attention, that it's now escalated to a game breaking bug, rather than just a performance issue.

This is far different than the 1.11.2 issue ilmango reported!

I know nether portals are particularly laggy.  They always have been.  But this is different than that.  It shouldn't freeze the server entirely until they make it through the portal, then everyone rubber bands back to the exact spot they were in when the player first entered the portal, with all the blocks they placed or broke brought back 3-4 seconds. TPS dropping for a few seconds is no biggy, but a complete freeze.... that's going to be terrible for larger servers!

I was told my ticket (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-148438) was a duplicate of this one that was created all the way back with version 1.11.2

I play on a lot of servers, this problem is FAR worse in 1.14 snapshots and pre-releases. That's why it took me this long to report it, as I'm used to basic lag when people switch dimensions using a portal. It reduces the TPS quite a bit, but only for 1-2 seconds.

Now in 1.14, it not only drops the TPS, but stops it out right. Now, once a player finishes switching dimensions, everyone else on the server will revert to 2-3 seconds ago, full on rubber banding.  Blocks all get replaced, and players return to the position they were at when the player entering the portal first started switching dimensions. I run a lot of servers, I've never seen anything this bad before.

*Also, our server hasn't made it to the end yet (huge lack of mobs), but I'd guess the issue will happen no matter the dimension a player is switching to.
