In my opinion, slime chunks have always been a bust in terms of Spawn rates. I once spent four days with a group of friends digging out 2 side by side slime chunk and making platforms all the way down. We only ever saw about 4 slimes over the course of a few weeks. The spawn rates for slimes have needed to be fixed since their implementation years ago.
