I'm having the same issue and it's extremely frustrating. This only happened with the update, and I've reset my phone and the app multiple times to no avail. This is the worst update imaginable, please set it back, I would rather tap my phone 64 times to make a stack then flat out not having the option to stack at all.
I'm having a similar issue, a stack of 10 torches won't combine with another stack of 12.
I know you can fix it by taking it out of your inventory and recollecting it but that's incredibly tedious and not fun at all.
