In my realm, hostile mobs never spawn with armor or weapons. This has been the case since the realm was created about two months ago. This issue does not occur when I play in Worlds, though. I have the 1.1 MCPE update on my iPhone.

Thanks Jonathan and James. I just asked the realm's owner to update the app too. Seems like the logical solution.
