I found a very elaborate redstone fix for this after fallowing the same tutorial but that fix only worked in 1.12.1 and 1.12.2 so far the problem reoccurs in all current snapshots (up to 18w14b)

As far as i can tell no youtuber has made a fully working super smelter to date hope my design still works when 1.13 comes out
Up until today I experienced it almost every single time I started up the game. It was a really annoying experience knowing that I lost tons of regional maps and items. I have not experienced it again since 2 days ago until I made a report similar to this one. Hopefully it has been resolved.
